There are many ophiolites in the Aegean region belonging to different suture zones, which start in the Balkans, take course through Greece and continue in Turkey. They have been studied since several decades, but there are still many questions regarding to their correlation and age.
The ophiolitic rocks, which are treated in this PhD thesis, are located in the northeastern part of Greece on the islands of Lesvos and Samothraki and in the Evros region. During this work they will be investigated by field studies and whole rock, mineral and isotope chemistry to determine their geochemical features as well as their origin and tectonic setting. A comparison with other ophiolites of the Aegean region will help to clarify the history of the Tethyan oceans.
